Bituminous Laboratory Manager/Senior Project Manager for WSP USA Inc for 29 years overseeing the materials testing of emulsified asphalts, seal coats, crack seals, PG Verification/Classification and formulation of Performance Grade asphalt binders, design of Asphalt-Rubber Binders and Polymer Modified Asphalt Rubber binders, extraction and recovery (Abson and Rotavapor methods) of RAP and asphalt concrete mixtures, Job Mix Formulation of Slurry Seal and Micro-Surfacing Systems, and design of emulsified and hot apply chip seals. Brian is also certified with NICET Asphalt Level III and Asphalt Institute NBTC.
Brian started as an entry level technician testing compressive strength of concrete cylinders and masonry prisms in 1995. Then moved to testing aggregates, soils, hot mix asphalt for both Marshall and SuperPave mix designs. Eventually moved into the Binder Laboratory where he learned to perform extraction by Reflux method and recovery by Rotavapor method on asphalt cores sent from FDOT to test the recovered binder. After years performing this testing, Brian expanded his experience testing emulsions, PG graded binders, ARB designs, crack seals, seal coats, chip seals, slurry seal and micro-surfacing JMF's. In 2012, Brian moved into the role as the Bituminous Laboratory Manager which he still resides today. The Binder Lab also consists of five very talented and highly experience technicians Sam Fox, Jesse Solarez, Kevin Long, Nathaniel Vasko and Pamela Toledo Hernandez.
