Amanda McGennis is the Senior Vice President of the Arizona Chapter Associated General Contractors She has worked for AZAGC 22 years.
Amanda has over 33 years in the construction industry. Her experience ranges from pavement materials and research, procurement, safety, environmental, FHWA, NCHRP and SHRP Research, transportation initiatives and the development of training curriculum for air quality, construction stormwater and horizontal confined space in Arizona.
As the AZAGC liaison for construction issues statewide Amanda works with state, local and municipal leaders, regulators and partners with the design community and various other construction related associations including APWA, AMCA & Friends of Transit.
Recently she received the 2022 American Council of Engineering Companies of Arizona Legacy Award for her contributions over the years to the transportation industry. In 2021 the Arizona Transportation Builder’s Association presented her with their prestigious Lifetime Member Award for her contributions over the years to the association. In 2021 she was awarded the Member of the Year Award by the Phoenix Metropolitan Chapter Women Transportation Seminar (WTS) and in 2018 the prestigious Rosa Parks Diversity Leadership award from the same organization. In 2019 she received the ASU Pavement Materials Founders Award for her contributions to the industry and in 2015 ADOT’s Small Business Engagement and Compliance award for educating small business thru Bidding Bootcamp workshops she created for the DBE program.
She has served three terms as the Chairman of the City of Phoenix Small Business Oversight Committee. She has also served on the City of Phoenix Development Subcommittee, Maricopa County Procurement Process improvement task force, and the Maricopa Ad Hoc Task force for Permitting and Standards, ADOT’s P3 working group and numerous other ADOT task groups including the creation of an industry, agency standards committee. Currently she is an industry representative for the Maricopa Association of Governments Air Quality Committee, the Maricopa County Clean Air Council, Maricopa County Flood Control Council, ADEQ Directors Council, ACEC Roads and Streets Construction Preservation Chair, former Vice Chairman of the Board for Friends of Transit, Chairwoman of APWA Government Affairs Committee, 2015 Congress Committee and 2022 president elect of Arizona Chapter APWA.
Some of her other achievements include, developing the first dust certification training for Maricopa County, working with Maricopa County and other stakeholders to create the first best practices for dust control field guide. When ADOT was assessed a consent decree for erosion control violations on a project, Amanda pulled together a working group and created Arizona’s stormwater erosion control coordinator training, its companion refresher training (now online) and the commercial stormwater control training. Since 2005 the training has certified almost 1000 individuals in erosion control and stormwater. Other significant trainings include creating numerous versions of “Bidding Bootcamp” for small business to understand bidding with a general contractor and other requirements for procuring work in hard bid procurement, alternative project delivery and aviation. She is married to her husband Bob of 23 years, has one daughter Celeste and 3 rescue doggies.
